Relief in an Image

I dont think an image has brought me so much relief in such a long time. While working on the Axolodyssey comic, ive been obsessing over my line quality in inking. Trying to buffer out any possible wobbles or clunky lines. And its honestly been making the inking process harder in alot of cases.

However, seeing this photo of a real life calvin and hobbes panel, with al its white out glory, not only put perspective into how common mistakes can be, but also how mistakes can be part of the process and medium too.

If you notice, not only is calvins whole mouth and hand reconstructed, but it looks like hobbes hair tuffts are created purly from white out! Wow! This was the tiny revelation i needed right now, in the middle of a battle with perfection.

  1. Really enlightening and encouraging as an artist! Never realized he used white out to actually create the art like that
