The main art project I have been working on as of late is me and Joel’s wedding invitations! In my head I have something whimsical and Claire Keane-y. The problem with this project is that I want it to turn out well. This means I have like 4 drafts started and am not happy with any of them. Here are my initial sketches:
I decided to go with the bottom left one. I tried digitally tracing it and it looked awful (not even going to post it). I tried a physical watercolor version:
Which didn’t look polished enough to me, so I decided to go back to digital:
Which I don’t love either. If anyone has any notes or tips please let me know I am struggling. You will notice that the first watercolor says “RSVP by June 1st” which just shows you how far behind I am. Whoops!
Even though this is not a finished piece, I thought I would share the messy progress so you can share in my struggle. Happy Tuesday!
Oh I love them
ReplyDeleteI love it all! I feel like the watercolor version has more wedding-y colors and would translate well to digital-or if you want it to be bolder you could do watercolor plus gouache! Also what if you and Joel were standing together with your elbow in his shoulder? That wouldn’t look as balanced though
ReplyDeleteI love these so far!! Just know that it took me a long time to design my wedding invitations, too. I think I did around 50 thumbnails and finally just decided on one. It feels like a lot of pressure. Just know that everyone is going to love it no matter what design you choose!!
ReplyDeleteI love them both I cant really say which is better!
ReplyDeleteMadz!! I love the final version- you capture your personalities so well ( like you always do ). Thanks for showing your process so far 💕
ReplyDeleteI think it's gotten better with each iteration! I think the final digital version is great, mainly because it's still loose but you have a bit more control over the values/likeness. Without knowing exactly what bugs you about it, idk exactly what suggestions I'd give, but if you wanted to merge the approaches you could always do some inked elements (traditionally or digitally) that you could layer over your digital pastels - the animated section of Mary Poppins Returns has this sort of approach and it has a very charming porcelain look.
